I'll be waiting for you in Mykonos

Synopsis

Vera arrives in Mykonos in January, when the island is shut down, with a three-day plan and a tin of Greek sweets in her backpack. There are no sweets inside. The tin holds the ashes of Anna, the woman she loved in secret for thirty years. She has come to keep a promise. All she has to do is open the lid.

She can't.

Stranded by the storm in the only guesthouse still open, Vera tells herself she'll stay "until the wind dies down." The wind dies down. She doesn't leave. And on the empty winter island—so unlike the summer postcard—someone photographs her without permission: Leda, thirty, a photographer documenting the last fishermen, the only one of her generation who stayed. Her professional rule: never shoot without asking. Her rule for life: never fall for anyone holding a return ticket.

She has just broken the first one.

Over the course of a single year—twelve months, an island that fills and empties, an urn that will not open—Vera and Leda will learn that some loves arrive too late, some arrive right on time, and some can only be lived in the light of day.
